The INMARSAT system is a communication network based on geostationary satellites. 

It provides access to all essential communication means for users anywhere in the world who cannot be accessed by other means (telephone, fax, email, data exchange (files, photos, etc.), communication relays. There are different types of Inmarsat services:
 

Inmarsat Mini-M multimedia or M4:

The multimedia Mini-M provides the same services as the Mini-M plus data transmission at 64 kbits/s. The terminal is very compact.

Inmarsat Mini-M:

The first global, mobile and compact satellite telephone provides access to all essential communication means – telephony, fax, email, data exchange (files, photos).

 

Voice Break-out:

On all Inmarsat services have built-in connectivity to the PSTN and can have internet access. For VSAT networks voice break-out to the PSTN can be arranged, although fop small or individual networks, voice minutes will normally be pre-paid.

 

BGAN
Regional BGAN is a revolutionary communications system that enables you to surf the web, send e-mail and transfer a host of other data from anywhere within the satellite footprint.

Inmarsat B:

Inmarsat B is the digital successor to Inmarsat A. It offers voice, fax (group 3), telex and data transmission at speeds of 9.6, 56 up to 64 kbit/s.

Inmarsat C:

Inmarsat C is a two-directional message service. It provides fax, telex and email services at a speed of 600 bits/s. It is GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) compatible.
